Lafayette’s Headquarters/Quarters is a long standing myth. Lafayette never stayed in this house, he was with Washington at Benjamin Ring’s House, awaiting an British attack that could have come at any time. The Battlefield Park site has now made this correction. Saying Lafayette left his Commander’s side to go sleep demeans the memory of a great French Patriot.
You are right, it doesn’t make much sense for him to not be with Washington…unless they had a fight (sorry)…thank you for pointing that out so I can update my post.
