YAY!!! Can’t wait to try this recipe! I share your thought regarding shortening. Although I recently found one by company called Spectrum. It’s not hydrogenated and organic. I broke down and bought for a cake recipe but I’m anxious to use it up since my inner health nut still screams when it sees the word ’shortening’ .

The butter will give you more flavor and a flakier crust since butter has water in it which evaporates while baking. Personally I feel it is “healthier” to use butter instead of shortening because the shortening I have seen is hydrogenated and is not good for you.

hi, i also used two different kinds of apples. so, i’m not alone!!! my hubby is a fan of pies and this is one of them. h’ever, i used butter instead of shortening. is there any different?

hello again what a great idea to use 2 different kinds of apples! i always use granny smith – only because paula deen says so. hahaha anyhoo. i am off to try your apple pie recipe. i’ll let you know how it turns out.
